- Pitt-Greensburg scholarships »
- The Lucy Vallero Scholarship is open to high school students and university students who are active members of Student PSEA dedicated to education and teaching. A number of Student PSEA members from Pitt-Greensburg have been awarded this competitive scholarship.
- The Jack Kinnaman Scholarship is a national award given by the NEA to university students active in Student PSEA.
- PAC-Te Scholarship is a scholarship given to a Pennsylvania undergraduate pursuing an education major and whose GPA is at least a 3.5.

Pre-Student Teaching and Student Teaching
In order to get the best student teaching experience possible, our Education Majors complete 60 hours of pre-student teaching in the same classroom in which they will student teach. This allows our aspiring educators to have the most time teaching, rather than observing, during their 14-week student placement.

Double Majors, Minors, and Endorsements
Special Education and Early Childhood Double Major. Earn two full certifications in Early Childhood Education (Pre K - Grade 4) and Special Education (Pre K - 22) by spending an extra semester at Pitt-Greensburg.
Secondary Education majors can earn a double major in education and in their discipline area, allowing for an even deeper knowledge of the content.
Early Childhood students can take one extra course and earn a STEM Endorsement, highlighting their abilities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Minors in special education (for secondary majors only) and psychology are popular choices for education majors. At Pitt-Greensburg, students can choose additional minors: talk to an advisor or professor as soon as possible to discuss their options.
Clubs/Honor Societies/Organizations
Student Pennsylvania State Education Association (SPSEA) — This organization provides aspiring educators with professional development workshops, social activities, and opportunities to work with children Pre K - 22 both inside and outside of the school setting. We have been recognized by not only the Pennsylvania State Education Association but also by the National Education Association for our educational programming , our students' leadership, and our commitment to our community.
Pi Lambda Theta Education Honors Society, is the most selective national honor society of educators. Membership is limited to students who satisfy academic eligibility requirements of a 3.5 overall GPA and whose dispositions show professionalism throughout their time at Pitt-Greensburg.
Pitt-Greensburg is an active participant in a local consortium of the Pennsylvania Association for the Education of Young Children (PAEYC), a statewide organization focused on the education of the youngest children.
Research Efforts/Opportunities
If you are interested in doing research and/or presenting at an educational conference, there are opportunities! Since fall of 2014, education majors have published research articles and have presented with education professors at the National Council for Social Studies, in Boston, San Antonio, and Denver; in Pittsburgh at a PAEYC conference, and in Harrisburg at the Pennsylvania Association for College Teachers of Education (PAC-Te). Additionally, research studies completed include comparing schools in New Zealand and those in Pennsylvania and understanding the economic knowledge of second graders.

Volunteer Opportunities
In addition to the work with children completed through your classes, there are many opportunities for you to volunteer and gain additional experience with children (K - Grade 12). These opportunities include semester or year-long programs. Best Buddies, Greensburg Salem Afterschool Program, Pitt Pals, and others.
One-time activities working with children are also available. You can assist at our Halloween-themed Reading Under the Stars, the Head Start Lunch with Santa, the College Day with exceptional students, Dr. Seuss, or our Blue and Gold Kids' Corner.
